Colours

Every colour GINC uses and where it goes: the palettes of its apps, charts, reports and cards, and the schemes for analysis.

Palettes

GINC works to more than one palette: one for apps, one for charts, one for reports, one for social cards, and two that belong to a single subject. Choose where the colour is going; click a colour to copy it.

Every GINC site and app: one accent, and a grey for everything else.

Indigo

The accent: buttons, links, the selected state.

Grey

Text, borders and grounds.

Analytics

For analysis and research graphics, where a chart needs more than the nine chart colours: a map, a heat grid, a scale from low to high. These are the 50 schemes Observable Plot offers, held here as plain colours, so nothing depends on Observable to have them. Choose one to see it drawn on GINC's figures.

ViridisSequential, several hues

A quantity from low to high, across a wider range or on a map.

Exports of goods by the ten largest exporters, 1995 to 2024: one end of the scheme for low, the other for high. Source: CEPII BACI.

Sequential, several hues 21

A quantity from low to high, across a wider range or on a map.

Diverging 11

A quantity either side of a midpoint: above and below zero, a mean or a target.

Cyclical 2

A quantity that comes round again: a bearing, an hour, a month.

Values from d3-scale-chromatic 3.1.0, sampled; the schemes of Observable Plot. The Brewer schemes are ColorBrewer's (Cynthia Brewer), and Tableau10 is Tableau's; viridis, magma, inferno and plasma are from matplotlib. A continuous scheme is given as 9 steps to copy; its strip is drawn from 33.
